Floraison is an interactive art installation exploring movement, life and power.

It takes the form of a digital mirror, in which your reflection interacts with other living beings.

It's an intimate and philosophical work, inspired by Gilles Deleuze's concepts and decolonial theories, from which organic representations naturally emerge.

Genesis

Floraison was born from research on two distinct topics, which connected in unexpected ways:

▸Decolonial theories, on power and collective relational dynamics

▸Gilles Deleuze's philosophical concepts of "becoming" and "line of flight"

I felt like these two were describing the same things through different vocabularies. Beneath both lay the same organic perception of collectivity. It touched me deeply, and I knew a living digital installation would be a perfect embodiment.

How is it made

Floraison is a program that spans three different pieces of software, each communicating with one another.

VVVV is the core, it manages a wide range of tasks and "commands" the two other parts. It detects the user via the depth camera SDK, sets variables based on what's happening, sends information to the other two programs, and outputs the final visuals.

Houdini runs the "life simulation engine", it simulates the organisms in real time, their behavior, physical interactions, growth and death.

SuperCollider runs the "audio engine", it emits both a soundscape that evolves based on every variable of the system, and individual sounds tied to specific events.

Timeline

Floraison isn't a static piece, it's a living system while being exhibited, and is further changed and modified between each diffusion by the artist. It's the reason why it can alternate between diffusion at festivals and residencies.

The inaugural diffusion was hosted by the DNA Festival, 2026 edition. During 2027, the installation should go through different diffusions and residencies, and further change.
